Example 3 (In group of two or three)

A wave pulse (width 30) is generated and travelled 90.0 cm in 1.69 s as shown in the diagram below.



(a) Calculate the speed of the wave pulse.

Speed of wave = wavelength / period
= 90 / 1.69
= 53.254

(b) Is it possible to change the speed of the wave pulse (of the same width)?

Yes, it is possible to change the speed of wave pulse.




In the above example, the tension has been adjusted. Hence, the speed of the wave pulse has decreased accordingly. Now, the speed of the wave pulse is 9.36 seconds, as compared to the previous 1.69 seconds.

In your group, upload your answer to your class Science Blog. For part (b), support your answer with evidences (such as screenshots of simulation showing difference/same time taken of wave pulse generated in different conditions to travel 90.0 cm)
